Tips For Driving on Snow and Ice
To minimize the dangers associated with wet winter driving, both the vehicle and the driver must be prepared.
:: Avoid driving while fatigued.
:: Use your seatbelt every time you get in the car.
:: Never warm up a vehicle in an enclosed area, such as a garage.
:: Make certain your tires are properly inflated.
:: Keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid gas line freeze up.
The following items carried in your vehicle will be invaluable should an emergency develops:
:: Small bag of abrasive material (sand, salt or kitty litter)
:: Small snow shovel
:: Flashlight
:: Ice scraper
:: Cloth or roll of paper towels
:: Booster cables
:: Blanket
:: Warning Devices (flares or triangles)
"One of the most important things motorists often forget when they find themselves in a slippery situation is also one of the most crucial -- not to panic," said Rose Rougeau of AAA Texas. "This allows the driver to keep his or her composure and think through the situation," Rougeau added.
