GM's Lansing Grand River Plant Receives J.D. Power and Associates Plant Quality Award

June 4, 2004 The entire day shift at the General Motors Lansing Grand River car plant took a brief break today to celebrate their achievement as the highest-ranking assembly plant in North/South America.

More than 500 people were on hand as J.D. (Dave) Power, III, chairman of the board of J.D. Power and Associates, presented the General Motors Lansing Grand River car plant with the 2004 North/South America Gold Plant Quality Award. Guy Briggs, group vice president of manufacturing and labor relations for General Motors, accepted the award from Power on behalf of the plant workers.

The plant, which produces the Cadillac CTS, ranks third in the world overall and highest among nearly 100 assembly plants in North and South America, achieving a problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) score of 74. The plant's initial quality has improved 16 percent since 2003.

"Lansing Grand River has a history of continuous improvement and outstanding performance," said Power. "This Gold Plant Quality Award is a reflection of GM's vision in 1999 to build a state-of-the-art assembly plant to compete with the best in the world."

The Cadillac CTS ranks among the top three models in the entry luxury car segment in the J.D. Power and Associates 2004 Initial Quality Study(SM), released in April. Cadillac ranks second among nameplates in the study, reflecting a 10 percent initial quality improvement for Cadillac over 2003.
