DENSO Increases Motorsports Sponsorships for 2004
TOKYO, Feb. 25 Japan-based DENSO Corporation today announced its motorsports sponsorship plans for the 2004 season. DENSO has been sponsoring motorsports since 1971. This year, DENSO will co-sponsor two new teams as a corporate sponsor: • Panasonic Toyota Racing team in Formula One (F1), and • Subaru World Rally team.
DENSO also continues to support the Panasonic Toyota Racing team as a technical sponsor. “DENSO is excited to sponsor these motorsports teams, and we hope to increase our name recognition and corporate image through our involvement with
motorsports around the world,” said Takao Inukai, executive vice president, Sales and Marketing. “It also is a good opportunity to showcase our technology to our many customers who support the motorsports community.” DENSO motorsports sponsorships also include:
Four-Wheel • Formula One (F1) - Technical sponsor of the Panasonic Toyota F1 team*, supplying spark plugs, and corporate sponsor. • World Rally Championship (WRC) - Corporate co-sponsor of a Subaru World Rally team*. • All Japan GT Championship (JGTC) - Main sponsor of the Toyota Team SARD* and two new promising drivers participating in the JGTC GT500 cc class. • Indy Racing League (IRL) - Continue to co-sponsor Mo Nunn Racing* and driver Toranosuke Takagi. • National Mustang Racing Association (NMRA) race series - New three- year title sponsorship called the DENSO NMRA Ford Drag Racing Series. • National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) & Import Drag Racing Circuit (IDRC) - Continue to sponsor Team Tactics and champion driver JoJo Callos. • Edelbrock Fastest Street Car Pro Drag Racing Series - Continue class sponsorship: Pro Street class. Two-Wheel DENSO supplies DENSO Iridium Power spark plugs, the world’s first spark plug to use a 0.4-mm iridium alloy center electrode, to various Motocross and World Two-wheel Championship riders: • MotoGP - DENSO continues to sponsor Naoki Matsudo (250 cc class) and Yoichi Ui (125 cc class). In addition, DENSO now sponsors Team LCR* (owned by former GP rider Lucio Cecchinello) and rider Taro Sekiguchi (250 cc class), who swept the European Championship last year. • All Nippon Road Race Championship - DENSO continues to sponsor riders Hiroyuki Kikuchi* (GP125) and Keiichi Kitagawa* (JSB1000), who won last year’s championship. • Motocross and Drag Racing - DENSO sponsors riders Ivan Tedesco, Stephane Roncada, Eric Sorby and Matt Walker for Team Pro Circuit Kawasaki in Motocross and driver Keishi Nakamura in drag racing. |
