Hot Wheels Racing, SPEED Channel, AutoZone Partner for Summer-Long Formula One Promotion
June 16, 2004 Mattel, Inc. and its Hot Wheels Racing brand, the collectible car home of Formula One racing's top teams, are partnering with SPEED Channel and AutoZone for a "Watch and Win" promotion that will award two VIP trips to the first Grand Prix race of the 2005 season in Australia.
The promotion will be introduced during this weekend's U. S. Grand Prix in Indianapolis (12:30 p.m. EST) and will offer the first "Watch and Win" opportunity during coverage of the French Grand Prix on July 4 at 7:30 a.m. EST. SPEED Channel viewers will be given a code word during the race broadcast and directed to SPEEDTV.com to enter the contest. Additional "Watch and Win" races will include the British Grand Prix (7:30 a.m. EST, July 11), the German Grand Prix (7:30 a.m. EST, July 25) and the Hungarian Grand Prix (7:30 a.m. EST, Aug. 15).
The grand prize winner will be announced on Aug. 29 during the broadcast of the Grand Prix of Belgium (7:30 a.m. EST). Consumers can enter each week to increase their chances of winning the grand prize. Secondary "prizes of the week" will include Hot Wheels(R) Racing merchandise signed by Formula One drivers.
"Our Hot Wheels(R) Racing Formula One models replicate some of the top Formula One racing team cars on the track," said Michael Staskin, vice president, Hot Wheels(R) marketing, Mattel. "We are thrilled to be partnering with SPEED Channel and AutoZone to bring Formula One fans the chance to experience the race in person, while also providing them the race cars they love in an authentic die-cast version."
During the campaign, 2,641 AutoZone stores will feature Hot Wheels(R) Racing Formula One end caps, featuring 1:18, 1:24, 1:43 and 1:64 scale F1 cars, including exclusive models from Ferrari, Renault F1 Team, Williams F1 Team and McLaren. A special gift-with-purchase, a limited edition F1 Team Speed Poster, will be available with purchases of any 1:18 or 1:24 scale vehicle.
"Access to the Formula One inner circle is like nirvana to the serious motor sports fan," said Bill Osborn, SPEED Channel senior vice president of marketing and on-air promotion. "The F1 drivers and machines are the best of the best in the world and our viewers recognize that. Throw in a trip to Australia and we expect the SPEED Channel faithful to flock to a unique opportunity like this."
Hot Wheels(R) Racing and SPEED Channel will mark the kickoff of the promotion with Team Williams show car appearances in AutoZone stores in the Indianapolis area.
Among the new Hot Wheels(R) products in the Formula One lineup is a 1:24 scale Ferrari and CD-ROM combination: the highly detailed Team Ferrari race car comes with a CD-ROM that features information and insight into the team and the sport.
